Inflatable boats first made their appearance during the nineteenth century when animal skins were filled with air and used to make pontoons. However, they didn’t become truly popular until the end of the Second World War when the US military began selling surplus inflatable boats to civilian boaters. Boaters soon discovered an inexpensive alternative for traveling through water.

Inflatable boats are now extremely popular and seen everywhere. One of the most well-known brand of inflatable boat is the respected Zodiac brand. Although the Zodiac Group also produces products for the aerospace and communications industry, they are known mainly to consumers for their inflatable boats, also known as RIBs or rigid inflatable boats.

Whilst strong, an inflatable boat isn’t indestructible. They can experience the same problems as any other type of vessel and means they must be maintained. Without adequate care, an inflatable boat won’t have a long life. It will start to lose air and it will become unusable, even to the point where repairing it can be as expensive as buying a new one.

So, with this in mind, one of the most basic parts of any maintenance program is an inflatable boat cover. Exposure to weather, birds and insects can cause deterioration to the structure of your inflatable boat and can affect its expected life span. To avoid that, think about purchasing an inflatable boat cover.

Where Can I Purchase An Inflatable Boat Cover?

The first and easiest place to search for an inflatable boat cover is on the Internet. There are several companies that specialize in these products. You can search for them with your favorite web browser and visit their sites. Once you have found three or four sites for comparison, send them an email.

The quality of the various responses will assist you in evaluating the business. Trained staff will be able to provide you with the necessary information on the type of inflatable boat cover you should buy. After you have selected your preferred store, a phone call and a credit card are all you will need to complete your purchase. Your package will be dispatched to your home or office.

If you’d like to inspect the inflatable boat cover prior making a purchase, you can also search for a boating accessory store near you. Grab the yellow pages and locate the boat covers section. You should find several stores or perhaps a marina that can sell you a pre-made or custom inflatable boat cover.

You’ll find more information at all boat covers and inflatable boat cover.

The Boat Care Business - A Brief Critique
    by Georgie T Branks

Boating is a big industry in this country and boats range from sailboats to fishing boats to leisure boats. One thing that every boat owner has in common is that they take care of their boats the same way most people take care of their cars. As with car care, boat care is a big business industry all its own.

Boat owners will tell you that they love to keep their pride looking ship shape however what does the term ‘boat care’ incorporate. Well it can be anything from washing down the hull to filling in major cracks. Let’s get one thing straight - it’s nearly as important as knowing how to navigate!

If you don’t care for your boat it can let you down in the most disastrous of situations such as the middle of the ocean 100 miles from shore.

Let’s start off by looking at waxes and cleaners that are available on the market today. It is important to choose the right cleaner for your type of boat and storage. Saltwater boats and freshwater boats often require different kinds of cleaning to ensure the longevity of the boat. It is also proper boat care to wash and wax your boat thoroughly before putting it into storage.

By waxing, cleaning and storing your craft properly it will be fit for the water when you bring it out again.

    Boat Care Products.

You, as a consumer, must do some level of research in order to obtain the best product for your boat as there are many available. Obtaining a decent soap is the primary concern for you.

A good soap will clean every surface inside and out and will not remove any protective wax coating, but it will remove any stubborn dirt residue from the boat.

Spray cleaner is the next must have in boat care and should always be kept on hand. This cleaner will remove any stains that appear on the surface of the boat such as bird droppings, fish blood or just good old fashioned grease.

Leaving those filthy remains on the boat could damage your boat in the long run. Another must have for proper boat care is a good finishing wax. The wax not only restores the boat’s shine and color, but the wax also helps to protect the boat from the elements.

Depending on the type of boat you have (saltwater v freshwater) it will attract different forms of corrosive and damage from the elements. For this reason you need to research which type of product is best purchased.

Boating safety commences with showing a little common sense and planning your journey well ahead of time. The reality is that, generally speaking, most folk that are preparing for a day out on the water forget this and do not tend to focus on the safty issues at all. No doubt, boating is about having a lot of pleasure on the water, but it is no reason to let your guard down and put yourself and others at risk.

    Voyage Planning.

One of the simplest boating safety tips you will be told about is to plan your voyage well before leaving your home and know about your destination, the people that are going with you and also when you expect to return. Additionally you should apply common sense and make sure that your boat is seaworthy even if you are only going on a short voyage. Never overload your boat and make sure the engine is checked and that you have the neccessary safety equipment onboard. In addition to these checks you should also store some extra fuel in case of leakages in the fuel line or you run out unintentionally and you should also load a basic tool kit. Another boating safety tip is to always have a Person Floatation Device or PFD for everyone on board and having a floating cushion is also recommended. In addition, you need to have a proper fire extinguisher and makes sure that your battery is properly charged and the bilge pump works properly.

    The Weather And It’s Threat.

Some things we are in control of and somethings we are not and with boating related activities the weather is one of the things that we are most definately not in control of. Therefore if a thunderhead rises up you must be aware of how to deal with it such as not trying to outrun it but to turn to a 90 degree angle from the direction it approaches in. When the storm now hits you you should then stowe away all your loose equipment and point the bow at the storm and power up the motorized engine sufficiently enough to ride the higher waves. By following these very simple tips and procedures there is no reason why you can’t stay safe during your boating experiences and enjoy them as well.

The above safety measures are basic and can help prevent any disaster however you will require more complex measures when dealing with different oceans and weather systems as well as varying boat sizes, power and speed.
